WikiWord (ВикиСлово) is a comprehensive Russian dictionary that offers more than 450,000 articles. It provides a wide range of information about any word, including spelling, pronunciation, word forms, definitions, origins, translations into multiple languages, synonyms, antonyms, examples of use, cognate words, idioms, collocations, and proverbs.
The dictionary is constantly improving and updating its content. It is worth mentioning that the app is ad-free.
It is important to note that without a subscription for 'Offline mode', the app requires internet access.
The WikiWord app delivers a user-friendly experience with its rich articles. The articles have a compact and full view with improved structure and semantic coloring. Users have the option to select specific vocabulary zones to view. Popup mini-articles are available for any word or phrase within an article, with a tap opening a full page. The app also includes around 15,000 images downloaded from the internet and provides brief encyclopedic information from Wikipedia. Pronunciations by native Russian speakers are available for approximately 14,000 high-frequency words.
The app offers a smart search feature that allows users to search for phrases and correct typos and spelling errors. It filters out obscene and foreign-language articles. Voice input is supported on iOS 13+, even without an internet connection. Search history is accessible offline.
For those interested in learning Russian, the app includes complete grammar rules for spelling and punctuation. Additionally, the app offers "The Word of the Day," providing an opportunity to learn something new about Russian every day. It also provides random interesting articles and the ability to create custom collections in favorites.
In order to access the dictionary offline, users can subscribe to the 'Offline mode' feature or make a one-time purchase. The offline dictionary is compact and fast, and it includes enhanced search functionality, support for Russian morphology, and full-fledged translations into English, Chinese, and Ukrainian languages. Offline mode also offers regular updates to the dictionary and the ability to sync history and favorites across all iOS devices via iCloud.
Other notable features of the app include simple navigation using one hand, the ability to use the app from any other applications through word clipboard integration, Slide Over and Split View mode support for iPad users, and a feature that saves internet traffic compared to using the web version of Wiktionary.
Please note that a subscription to 'Offline mode' is available for users who want to access the dictionary without an internet connection. The subscription is automatically renewed unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to the user's iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions can be managed through Account Settings after purchase, but cancellation during the current active period is not possible.
